Selank FAQ

What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It extends tuftsin, a four-amino-acid fragment of immunoglobulin G, with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that slows its breakdown. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Selank vs. Semax

Both are synthetic heptapeptides developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and both end in the same Pro-Gly-Pro tail that slows enzymatic breakdown. They come from different parent peptides: Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) extends tuftsin, an immunoglobulin fragment, while Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) extends the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone.

Why aren't Selank and Semax FDA approved?

Both were developed and registered in Russia, and no sponsor has taken either through the U.S. clinical-trial and New Drug Application process that FDA approval requires. In the United States they are research compounds only.

DSIP vs. Selank: what's the difference?

They differ in origin and design. DSIP is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit blood in 1977, with no identified receptor. Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) designed in Russia by extending tuftsin, an immunoglobulin fragment, with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Both appear in neuroscience research, but they share no sequence or known target.

What has Selank been studied for in research?

Published research on Selank has been mainly preclinical, in rodent and cell models, examining anxiety-related behavior, GABA-A receptor signaling, enkephalin-degrading enzymes and gene expression in the brain and immune system. It is registered as a medicine in Russia, where clinical studies have included people with generalized anxiety disorder. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.

Selank vs. oxytocin: what's the difference?

They are unrelated peptides. Selank is a synthetic linear heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) built from tuftsin, with no single defined receptor. Oxytocin is a naturally occurring cyclic nonapeptide hormone, held in a ring by a disulfide bond, that acts on the oxytocin receptor (OXTR). Oxytocin is also an FDA-approved active ingredient; Selank is not approved in the United States.

What are the identifiers for Selank?

Selank: molecular formula C33H57N11O9; molecular weight 751.88 g/mol; CAS number 129954-34-3. Sequence: Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP). Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.

Does Selank come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 5mg (98.97% HPLC purity); 10mg (99.6% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.

What purity is Selank?

98.97% (HPLC, current lot). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.

What sizes of Selank are available?

Selank is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial in 2 sizes: 5mg, 10mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.

How should Selank be stored?

Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
