DSIP FAQ

What is DSIP?

DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nonapeptide, Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu. It was isolated in 1977 by Swiss researchers from the blood of rabbits in which slow-wave (delta) sleep had been induced, which is where the name comes from. No gene or receptor specific to it has been identified, and it remains a research peptide.

What has DSIP been studied for in research?

Published research on DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) has been mainly preclinical, in rabbit, rat and cell models, examining sleep-related EEG patterns, stress-hormone signaling and body-temperature regulation. A small number of clinical studies in sleep research were published in the 1980s. Because no specific receptor or gene for DSIP has been identified, its mechanism remains unresolved. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.

Is DSIP FDA approved?

No. DSIP has never been approved by the FDA or, as far as published records show, by any other major drug regulator, and no sponsor has taken it through modern clinical development. As of October 2026 it is an unapproved research peptide, and the material sold here is a laboratory reagent only.

Is DSIP legal?

DSIP is not an FDA-approved drug and is not listed as a federally controlled substance in the United States. Like other unapproved peptides, it can be bought as a research chemical for laboratory use, but it is unlawful to sell it for human consumption or to market it with health claims. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does DSIP peptide need to be refrigerated?

Yes, for storage. Keep the sealed lyophilized DSIP vial refrigerated at 2–8 °C, or frozen at −20 °C for long-term storage, away from light and moisture. Its sequence contains tryptophan, which is prone to oxidation, so once reconstituted the solution should be kept refrigerated, protected from light and not cycled through repeated freezing and thawing.

DSIP vs. Epithalon: what's the difference?

They are unrelated peptides. DSIP is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) isolated in 1977 from rabbit blood by Swiss researchers and named for sleep research. Epithalon is a much smaller synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed in Russia from work on pineal-gland extracts, and it is studied mainly in aging and telomerase research. They share no sequence, origin or known target.

DSIP vs. Selank: what's the difference?

They differ in origin and design. DSIP is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit blood in 1977, with no identified receptor. Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) designed in Russia by extending tuftsin, an immunoglobulin fragment, with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Both appear in neuroscience research, but they share no sequence or known target.

DSIP vs. melatonin: what's the difference?

They are different classes of molecule. DSIP is a nine-amino-acid peptide. Melatonin is not a peptide at all: it is a small indoleamine (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) made from the amino acid tryptophan, mainly in the pineal gland, and it acts on the MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptors. No specific receptor for DSIP has been identified.

What are the identifiers for DSIP?

DSIP: molecular formula C35H48N10O15; molecular weight 848.81 g/mol; CAS number 62568-57-4. Sequence: Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu (WAGGDASGE). Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.

Does DSIP come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 5mg (98.92% HPLC purity); 10mg (99.49% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.

What purity is DSIP?

98.92% (HPLC, current lot). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.

What sizes of DSIP are available?

DSIP is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial in 2 sizes: 5mg, 10mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.

How should DSIP be stored?

Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
