PEG-MGF FAQ

MGF vs. PEG-MGF vs. IGF-1 LR3

MGF is a 24-amino-acid peptide matching the C-terminal E-domain of the IGF-1Ec splice variant. PEG-MGF is the same peptide conjugated to polyethylene glycol, which protects it from rapid enzymatic breakdown. IGF-1 LR3 is different again: a full-length, 83-amino-acid recombinant analogue of IGF-1 itself, not of the E-domain.

What is PEG-MGF?

PEG-MGF is the 24-amino-acid mechano growth factor (MGF) peptide, YQPPSTNKNTKSQRRKGSTFEERK, chemically attached to a chain of polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEGylation makes the molecule larger and shields it from protease enzymes, so it persists far longer in research systems than unmodified MGF, which is broken down within minutes. It is a research compound and is not FDA approved.

What has PEG-MGF been studied for in research?

Published research on PEG-MGF itself is very limited. PEGylation is a well-established technique for extending the persistence of peptides and proteins, and PEG-MGF applies it to the MGF E-domain peptide, whose own research has been preclinical, in cultured muscle cells and rodent models. No clinical trials of PEG-MGF have been published. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.

Is PEG-MGF FDA approved?

No. PEG-MGF has never been approved by the FDA or any other regulator and has not entered clinical development. Several unrelated PEGylated proteins are approved medicines, but PEG-MGF is a research compound, sold here for laboratory research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

What are the identifiers for PEG-MGF?

PEG-MGF: molecular weight peptide core approximately 2,867 Da; total mass varies with PEG chain length. Sequence: PEGylated Tyr-Gln-Pro-Pro-Ser-Thr-Asn-Lys-Asn-Thr-Lys-Ser-Gln-Arg-Arg-Lys-Gly-Ser-Thr-Phe-Glu-Glu-Arg-Lys (YQPPSTNKNTKSQRRKGSTFEERK). Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.

Does PEG-MGF come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 2mg (98.71% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.

What purity is PEG-MGF?

98.71% (HPLC, current lot). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.

What sizes of PEG-MGF are available?

PEG-MGF is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial: 2mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.

How should PEG-MGF be stored?

Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
