Synthetic 24-residue peptide, YQPPSTNKNTKSQRRKGSTFEERK.
MGF FAQ
What is MGF (mechano growth factor)?
MGF is a synthetic 24-amino-acid peptide (YQPPSTNKNTKSQRRKGSTFEERK) matching the C-terminal E-domain of IGF-1Ec, a splice variant of the IGF-1 gene that was found to be expressed in muscle tissue under mechanical load. It is a research peptide and is not FDA approved.
MGF vs. PEG-MGF vs. IGF-1 LR3
MGF is a 24-amino-acid peptide matching the C-terminal E-domain of the IGF-1Ec splice variant. PEG-MGF is the same peptide conjugated to polyethylene glycol, which protects it from rapid enzymatic breakdown. IGF-1 LR3 is different again: a full-length, 83-amino-acid recombinant analogue of IGF-1 itself, not of the E-domain.
What has MGF been studied for in research?
MGF came from Geoffrey Goldspink's laboratory in the 1990s, which identified an IGF-1 splice variant expressed in muscle under mechanical load. Research with the synthetic E-domain peptide has been preclinical, mainly in cultured muscle precursor cells and rodent models, with additional work in heart and nerve tissue. Several published findings have been disputed by other groups. It has not entered clinical trials. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.
Is MGF FDA approved?
No. MGF (mechano growth factor) peptide has never been approved by the FDA or any other regulator and has not been through clinical development. It is a research peptide, sold here for laboratory research use only. The World Anti-Doping Agency lists mechano growth factors in class S2, prohibited in sport.
MGF vs. IGF-1 (and HGH)
MGF is not a form of IGF-1 hormone itself. It is a 24-amino-acid peptide matching the E-domain, the C-terminal tail of the IGF-1Ec precursor that is cut off when mature IGF-1 is made. IGF-1 is the 70-amino-acid hormone that binds the IGF-1 receptor, and HGH is a 191-amino-acid pituitary protein. The three share no active sequence.
MGF vs. BPC-157
They are unrelated peptides. MGF is a 24-amino-acid peptide from the E-domain of an IGF-1 splice variant, studied in muscle-cell models. BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid synthetic peptide based on a partial sequence of a gastric-juice protein, studied in tissue-repair models. They differ in origin, sequence and the pathways examined.
What are the identifiers for MGF?
MGF: molecular weight approximately 2,867 Da. Sequence: Tyr-Gln-Pro-Pro-Ser-Thr-Asn-Lys-Asn-Thr-Lys-Ser-Gln-Arg-Arg-Lys-Gly-Ser-Thr-Phe-Glu-Glu-Arg-Lys (YQPPSTNKNTKSQRRKGSTFEERK). Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.
Does MGF come with a Certificate of Analysis?
Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 2mg (99.02% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.
What purity is MGF?
99.02% (HPLC, current lot). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.
What sizes of MGF are available?
MGF is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial: 2mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.
How should MGF be stored?
Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
