Hexarelin FAQ

What is hexarelin?

Hexarelin is a synthetic hexapeptide (His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) in the growth-hormone-releasing peptide family, derived from GHRP-6. It acts on the ghrelin receptor and also binds CD36, which has made it a subject of cardiovascular research. It is not FDA approved.

Hexarelin vs. ipamorelin

Both are synthetic ghrelin-receptor (GHS-R1a) agonists. Hexarelin is a hexapeptide derived from GHRP-6 with a 2-methyl-D-tryptophan, and it also binds the CD36 receptor, which has made it a subject of cardiovascular research. Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide characterized in published studies as more selective for the ghrelin receptor. Neither is FDA approved.

Are peptides like ipamorelin, sermorelin and CJC-1295 the same as HGH?

No. HGH is the 191-amino-acid growth hormone itself. Ipamorelin, GHRP-6, hexarelin, sermorelin, CJC-1295 and tesamorelin are much smaller synthetic peptides, called growth hormone secretagogues, that act on pituitary receptors controlling the body's own release of growth hormone: the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) or the GHRH receptor. None of them contains the growth hormone sequence.

What does "acetate" mean in sermorelin acetate, GHRP-6 acetate or hexarelin acetate?

It names the counter-ion. Peptides with basic groups, such as lysine, arginine, histidine and the N-terminus, carry positive charges that are balanced by negative ions. After purification, many peptides are converted to the acetate salt, which is preferred in research over the trifluoroacetate left by HPLC. The counter-ion adds weight, so the net peptide content of a vial is somewhat lower than the gross powder weight.

GHRPs (GHRP-6, hexarelin) vs. GHRH analogues (CJC-1295, sermorelin, tesamorelin)

They act on different receptors. GHRP-6, GHRP-2 and hexarelin are small synthetic hexapeptides that act on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a). CJC-1295, sermorelin and tesamorelin are much longer analogues of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, 29 to 44 amino acids, that act on the GHRH receptor. Both receptors are on pituitary cells and regulate growth hormone release through separate signaling pathways.

What has hexarelin been studied for in research?

Hexarelin was developed in the early 1990s and studied in human pharmacology trials as a ghrelin-receptor agonist. Later research focused on its binding to CD36, a scavenger receptor on heart and blood-vessel cells, in rodent heart models and cultured cardiac cells. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.

Is hexarelin FDA approved?

No. Hexarelin (also called examorelin) has never been approved by the FDA or any other major regulator. It is a research compound, sold here for laboratory research use only. The World Anti-Doping Agency names it among the growth-hormone-releasing peptides in class S2.

Is hexarelin a GHRP? (Hexarelin vs. GHRP-6)

Yes. Hexarelin is a synthetic hexapeptide in the growth-hormone-releasing peptide (GHRP) family, made by modifying GHRP-6. The only difference is at position 2: hexarelin has 2-methyl-D-tryptophan where GHRP-6 has D-tryptophan, a change made to resist breakdown. Both act on the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a); hexarelin also binds CD36.

How do you reconstitute and store hexarelin?

Hexarelin is a small peptide that dissolves readily in water-based diluents. Let the sealed vial reach room temperature, add sterile diluent slowly down the inside wall, and swirl gently until clear, without shaking; the concentration is the labeled mass divided by the volume added. Keep the lyophilized vial at 2–8 °C, or −20 °C long term. Keep reconstituted solution refrigerated and avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Is hexarelin legal?

In the United States, hexarelin is not a controlled substance and can be lawfully purchased as a research chemical for laboratory use. It is not an approved drug, so selling it for human use or with health claims is unlawful. The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits it in sport at all times, listing it as examorelin among the growth-hormone-releasing peptides in class S2. This is general information, not legal advice.

IGF-1 LR3 vs. CJC-1295, ipamorelin, sermorelin or tesamorelin

They sit at different points of the growth hormone axis. CJC-1295, sermorelin and tesamorelin (GHRH receptor) and ipamorelin, GHRP-6 and hexarelin (ghrelin receptor) are small peptides that act on pituitary receptors controlling growth hormone release. IGF-1 LR3 acts further downstream: it is an analogue of IGF-1, the hormone produced largely in response to growth hormone, and binds the IGF-1 receptor directly.

What are the identifiers for Hexarelin?

Hexarelin: molecular formula C47H58N12O6; molecular weight 887.04 g/mol; CAS number 140703-51-1. Sequence: His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.

Does Hexarelin come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 5mg (99.28% HPLC purity); 10mg (99.13% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.

What purity is Hexarelin?

99.13% (HPLC, current lot). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.

What sizes of Hexarelin are available?

Hexarelin is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial in 2 sizes: 5mg, 10mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.

How should Hexarelin be stored?

Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
