Follistatin 344 95% FAQ

What is Follistatin 344?

Follistatin is a glycoprotein that binds and neutralizes members of the TGF-β family, such as activin and myostatin. "344" names the 344-amino-acid precursor isoform, which includes a 29-residue signal peptide; it is processed into the 315-residue form found in circulation. Ours is recombinant human follistatin, 95% grade.

What has Follistatin 344 been studied for in research?

Follistatin was discovered in 1987 in ovarian follicular fluid as a suppressor of follicle-stimulating hormone. Research has focused on its binding to activin, myostatin and other TGF-β family ligands, in cell culture and in transgenic and rodent models of muscle and reproductive biology. Gene-delivery forms of FS344 have been investigated in small early-stage clinical trials in people with certain muscular dystrophies. Findings in cells or animals do not establish effects in people.

Is Follistatin 344 FDA approved?

No. Follistatin 344 is not an FDA-approved drug, and no follistatin protein is approved as a medicine anywhere. Follistatin-based approaches have been investigated only in early-stage clinical research. The material sold here is a recombinant research reagent, for laboratory research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

Is Follistatin 344 a peptide?

Not usually called one. Follistatin is a glycoprotein: a folded, sugar-bearing protein of several hundred amino acids with multiple disulfide-rich domains. The 344-residue precursor includes a signal peptide that is removed to give the mature protein. Proteins this large are made by recombinant expression rather than peptide synthesis, and are graded by purity differently from short synthetic peptides.

Is Follistatin 344 legal?

In the United States, follistatin is not a controlled substance and can be lawfully purchased as a research reagent for laboratory use. It is not an approved drug, so selling it for human use or with health claims is unlawful. The World Anti-Doping Agency names follistatin among the myostatin inhibitors in class S4, prohibited in sport at all times. This is general information, not legal advice.

How do you reconstitute Follistatin 344 in the lab?

As a recombinant glycoprotein, follistatin needs gentle handling. Briefly spin or tap the sealed vial so the powder settles, let it reach room temperature, then add the diluent named on the label or Certificate of Analysis slowly down the inside wall. Swirl gently without shaking or vortexing, which can denature proteins. Concentration is the labeled mass divided by volume. Aliquot and store cold, avoiding freeze-thaw cycles.

Follistatin 344 vs. ACE-031

Both bind ligands of the TGF-β family, such as myostatin and activin, but they are different molecules. Follistatin is a natural binding glycoprotein. ACE-031 (ramatercept) is an engineered fusion protein that joins the extracellular domain of the activin type IIB receptor to an antibody Fc fragment, acting as a decoy receptor. ACE-031 was investigated in clinical trials in boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is not approved. We do not sell it.

Follistatin 344 vs. IGF-1 LR3, CJC-1295 and tesamorelin

They are not in the same pathway. Follistatin is a binding protein that captures activin, myostatin and related TGF-β family ligands outside cells. IGF-1 LR3 acts on the IGF-1 receptor, and CJC-1295 and tesamorelin act on the GHRH receptor in the growth hormone axis. Follistatin is a large recombinant glycoprotein; CJC-1295 and tesamorelin are synthetic peptides.

What are the identifiers for Follistatin 344 95%?

Follistatin 344 95%: molecular weight ~38 kDa (mature glycoprotein; varies with glycosylation and expression system). Match these identifiers against the Certificate of Analysis for the lot.

Does Follistatin 344 95% come with a Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Each lot has its own Certificate of Analysis, linked on this page for the current lot of each size: 1mg (99.32% HPLC purity). Past certificates are archived in the COA library; contact us with the lot number on the vial label if a certificate is missing.

What purity is Follistatin 344 95%?

95% grade (HPLC). Purity is measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and reported on the lot's Certificate of Analysis.

What sizes of Follistatin 344 95% are available?

Follistatin 344 95% is supplied as lyophilized powder in a sealed vial: 1mg. In stock and dispatched in 1–2 business days. Quantity pricing applies automatically at 5+ and 10+ vials of the same size.

How should Follistatin 344 95% be stored?

Store sealed at −20 °C, dry and protected from light.
